Long soaks, lazy days, and starry nights beside The Vacationist Cabin
Looking for a private cabin with a hot tub in East Sussex? The Vacationist is an off-grid cabin set in its own field, surrounded by open countryside near the South Downs.
There are no shared spaces, no rows of cabins, and no background noise — just one place, entirely your own, with a wood-fired hot tub waiting outside.
The tub is heated by real flame and positioned for slow evenings under open skies — whether that’s sunset light across the field or stars overhead later on.
Just over an hour from London, it’s an easy escape that feels completely removed from it.
Set near Uckfield and Lewes, on the edge of the High Weald National Landscape, this is a quiet corner of East Sussex where you can properly switch off and slow down.
Note: In the cooler months (1 Oct – 30 Apr), hot tub use is available as an optional £20 supplement per stay, which can be added at checkout. May to September it’s already included in the price.

You can also explore our romantic glamping blog post to see why a private cabin with a hot tub creates such a special place to stay. The hot tub trailer is a favourite for guests enjoying our digital detox cabin experience — simple, quiet and completely private.
At our off-grid glamping cabin, the wood-fired hot tub is part of the experience — simple, hands-on, and completely independent from modern systems.
Just as the Vacationist Cabin is built on a retired hay-bale trailer, the wood-fired hot tub has also been repurposed from a retired farm workhorse — giving it a new life as part of this off-grid cabin experience.
This was for fun, to recycle and upcycle wherever possible, to make something different and unusual, and to allow us flexibility on where to put it. As you can see it, it looks wonderful just a few steps away from the cabin. Separate but together, their tractor-red trailer chassis mark them as coming from the same stable.
Heating the hot tub is part of staying in an off-grid cabin with a hot tub — simple, natural, and a bit more hands-on.
But how? Its known as the ‘Thermosiphon Effect’. As the water in the fire-heated coil warms up, it becomes lighter and rises naturally. Meanwhile, cooler, denser water moves down to replace it near the coil. This creates a continuous, natural circulation of water without a pump, evenly distributing heat throughout the tub. (With the help of regular tub-stirring!)
Yes there is glamour as you’d expect from our luxury eco cabin with wood-fired hot tub, but we shouldn’t forget glamping’s natural roots – Camping!
There’s lots of beautiful interior design and comfort to enjoy inside, but we want the beautiful space you have all to yourself outside to be a star too. So as well as the Hot Tub Trailer, also make sure you take time for:
You’ll see it right there when you arrive, and through the feature triangle-window from the main bedroom. While away hours in the hammock, and enjoy a firepit under the stars (there’s a cooking grill on it too) sat on our handmade bench. But looking back to the trees, you might also be tempted to follow the path and enter….
A magical clearing of sun-dappled woodland with a deck, seating, and firepit with tripod and cooking rack, ideal for BBQs. Solar lights create a special glow at night, lighting up the tree canopy and the trunk of the big sheltering oak.
Listen to the wind in the trees, the tinkling stream next to you, and hear the local owls wake-up as dusk sets in. Will The Secret Woodland area turn out to be your favourite spot?
The fantastic hot tub trailer was, not long ago, destined to rot away in a corner of a nearby field. Abandoned and piled with bits of…well, “random crap”, it was all a sorry site. Rust was its new master and it was sinking into the Sussex soil with the weight of its burden.
Then along we came. With dreams of steamy soaks and natural wood-fired hot tub sessions for our happy guests, we saw only potential. And a hot-tub on wheels, crafted by hand from reclaimed materials?? Absolutely. It’s part of what makes our Sussex glamping stay so memorable — handmade, reclaimed, and powered by fire.
The odd angle-grinder, rust treatment, paint-brush, a whole load of wood and some special bits to build the hot-tub from specialist suppliers, all mixed together with a whole mega-tub of elbow-grease and hey presto – The Hot Tub Trailer! Towed into place and fired up in no time, it’s ready to soothe aching muscles and nourish the souls of our lucky guests.
From derelict to fantastic, we’ve recovered what was essentially some old junk and created something to make some great memories for lots of people.
And relax…..
Sunset: warm glow + cool air + sundowners
Winter: steaming water under frosty skies
Summer evenings: quiet field, warm breeze, starry nights
Autumn: fire scent + autumnal colours
