The cabin has a comfortable king-sized bed in a master bedroom. There is also a 'hidden' bedroom for the kids / your pals.
You have your own private field! There is a firepit a field hammock for two and loads of space to safely run around in. There's the Hot Tub Trailer, and The Secret Woodland area. The cabin itself also boasts a sundeck, - the perfect place to watch the sun set and then, as night falls, the stars as they fill the sky.
It's also on the Crockstead Fields festival site - close enough to join the fun but far enough away to get some peace (and a comfy night's sleep!)
The Vacationist is in a field and we recommend you take wellies, especially on wet days. Walking boots and / or trainers are a good idea too - there is lots of wonderful walking in the area.
We have a two-burner gas stove on board with a frying pan, saucepan and a milk pan.
We have a walk in shower with hot water and a special shower-head that keeps up good pressure. Our toilet is a top-of-the-range compost loo from Simploo. If you are scrunching your nose in distaste at the thought of campsite-style long-drops, this is entirely different. Simploo's award-winning toilet is smell-free and simple to use. We have left plenty of detail on board about how it all works and are confident you will be pleasantly surprised.
Check-in is from 2pm and check-out is 11am. If you would like early check-in / late check-out, contact us and we can check availability and quote for any additional costs. Checking in, you get a unique keysafe code and you're good to arrive whenever. At check-out we just ask you to close windows, pull the plug on the hot-tub, and lock up. No need to empty bins or anything like that. Just take away great memories!
Yes you can! There are lovely pubs, tea-rooms, cafes and restaurants nearby. Check out our local area page for more info.
Yes. The cabin is fully-insulated with Cumbrian sheep's wool which keeps a lovely ambient temperature inside. We have a clean log-burning stove as well as a back-up diesel heater for quick heat until the burner is chugging along. When the sun is out, the large south facing bifold glass doors have a wondeful greenhouse effect, warming the cabin whatever the time of year.
Our beautiful hand-made wood-fire hot-tub is built on a refurbished farm trailer, with in-built benches and lounging cushions for sunbathing or cooling down. It's wood fired, so embrace the slower pace of life, fire up the heating coil and enjoy the flames and the magical thermosiphon process that will get your tub up to temperature in 1-2 hours depending on conditions. At the end of your soak, pop the lid back on and have a bit more of a fire the next day to crank the temperature back up a little. It is insulated so it'll still be warm. Day 2 is a quicker reheat! And if the weather is scorching, it also makes a wonderful cool-down tub! Wood is included for your stay.
Our location in East Sussex is in a private meadow. You are not overlooked, though a short walk takes you to the festival / wedding site of Crockstead Fields. There is tons of space for kids to play, plus a hammock and a firepit in the field. Just behind the cabin is The Secret Woodland, a tranqui wooded clearing with seating, a tripod firepit for cooking or flame-gazing, and a tinkling stream. And of course we have the amazing Hot Tub Trailer. You're spoilt for choice!
Accessibility is largely dependent on your specific needs. Please note though, our location means The Vacationist is parked on uneven ground and has an uneven access route. There are also steep stairs from the ground to the decking and front door. Once inside, the floor surface is smooth but there are narrow areas and doorways. The bed is higher than a standard bed and may require use of a stool. The shower and toilet are ostensibly the same as standard shower and toilet facilities. Please do get in touch if you are concerned about accessibility and we can discuss things in more detail. There is no disabled access.
We worked with partners such as Low Carbon South East, Simploo, Bimble Solar, IR tech, Cosiwool, Havwoods, Sofastyle, Mini Moderns and others to ensure our build was as eco-friendly as possible. By using the best tech, repurposing rather than buying new and using products from companies that place sustainability at the core of their business, we were able to build a carbon neutral space that is stylish, comfortable and clever.
The Cabin is off-grid and uses a waterless toilet and solar power, which provides the heat and energy and we recycle our grey water and compost to feed the farmland. Guests can enjoy a break with minimal impact on the planet.
We're close to the South Downs National Park, the High Welad AONB, and stunning Sussex coastline and countryside. Bring bikes if you like. In your private field, there's plenty of space to lock them up to our secure trailer. If you want to hire bikes too, we've got you covered. We've partnered up with Cuckmere Cycles just down the road. Experts in the area, with top line electric and srandard mountain bikes, they can deliver bikes right to you at the cabin.
There is masses to do! Hiking and biking on the Downs is wonderful, but there are also plenty of places to visit inland. Check out our Local Area page for specific suggestions. Pubs, parks, saunas, coastal cliff walks, the up and downs of the south downs and loads more.
Sorry, we have a no pets policy and do not allow dogs at The Vacationist cabin.
We are unable to cancel or reschedule bookings within 8 weeks of your arrival date. Outside of 8 weeks, we are happy to help you move dates subject to availability. We follow the government’s rules. If there is a nationwide or local lockdown, we will allow guests to reschedule their booking. Any payments you have made (whether deposit or full balance) are subject to our standard cancellation policy.
We have a Bluetooth speaker. We do ask that you are respectful to our neighbours and passing hikers, and also that you do not play music outside between 10pm and 8am.
Yes. We have 2400w of solar power and that is more than enough to charge your devices through the USB outlets on board. We've got a USB-C laptop charger too!
Yes, there is a private off-road parking spot just for you.
We're coffee heads, and if you are too, you'll be happy to hear that we have a great stove-top mokka-pot. Easy to use, and delivering strong espresso strength black gold.
There are buses from Uckfield, which is the closest place for rail links - it just takes 17 minutes. The bus stop is five minutes walk down a quiet lane.
